Monogram Takes it to The Next Level at KBIS

In 2019, Monogram made an indelible mark at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) with a booth exquisitely executed by respected designer Richard Anuszkiewicz. The impeccable space wowed designers, builders, homeowners, architects and everyone in attendance, nabbing the honor of Best Large Booth at the renowned trade show.

“This year, we wanted to take it to the next level,” says Richard, who is once again leading the design of Monogram’s booth at KBIS, which takes place in Las Vegas from Jan. 21-23.

“In every which way we tried to heighten the space. It’s a true showpiece,” adds Richard, who describes the Monogram designs as “future-minded, but with a nod to the past that honors the heritage of craftsmanship.”

The stunning KBIS booth has a theater-like quality, with plush velvet curtains serving as a backdrop to the stars of the show: two separate kitchens featuring Monogram’s new Statement Collection and Minimalist Collection, which were launched in early 2020. Both designs exude thought-provoking concepts, meticulously selected materials and attention to detail.

The Statement Kitchen is a contemporary take on French gourmet influence. It showcases a library wall book case with integrated floating wall ovens and a classic French hearth custom hood above Monogram’s never-before-seen 48-inch professional range and bespoke gold hearth oven. An exotic eucalyptus refrigeration armoire in a starburst tailored grain pattern with leather stitched appliance handles is a show‐stopper.

The Minimalist Kitchen takes inspiration from a dining room setting. The centerpiece of this modern room is a fresh take on a Parson’s table, with both gas and induction cooking elements suspended like pieces of art. The table is comprised of hand‐planed wood, stainless steel counters with brass-inlay detailing. Bringing further dimension to an often‐austere palette, the Minimalist kitchen has two signature brass refrigeration panels by Richard Anuszkiewicz.

“We wanted to bring our booth to life in a multifaceted way by incorporating an interactive ‘show within a show” to enhance and engage each of the audience’s five senses, to stand out from the crowd, and to be ‘The Greatest Showman,’” says Christina Reed, Monogram’s Senior Manager of Custom Display Design. “From enhanced cooking technology to meticulously curated materials, the attendees will be taken on the Monogram brand story and find an appreciation for the finer details used within our products.”

The design team focused on showcasing forward-thinking design — from exotic woods to fine-quality metals — and state-of-the-art products that highlight the mark of luxury you can see and feel.

“2020 is the year of Monogram,” Christina says, “and we are setting a new tone while also elevating to the next standard of luxury unprecedented in this industry.”

Monogram Debuts Two Inspired New Collections at KBIS

Today’s luxury kitchens are leaning toward minimalism and sleek design, and Monogram reflected this look in our two new collections debuted at the 2019 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). Impeccably designed by highly respected kitchen and bath designer Richard Anuszkiewicz, the Monogram space truly impressed designers, builders, homeowners, architects and everyone in attendance.

The revamped Monogram Professional Collection provides a blend of modern design with traditional features. This includes new robust, edge-to-edge handles that feel more integrated with the appliances and a gleaming stainless steel finish. These appliances feature rich, interactive LCD displays with minimal use of knobs and larger glass windows for a refined, elevated look in any kitchen.

Our former European line evolved to the new Monogram Minimal Collection, which takes that streamlined design to a new level. Designers eliminated knobs and handles wherever possible and  replaced them with a new touch-to-open feature along with precisely machined metal framing and wide glass windows. New LCD interactive screens replace knobs, which allows the entire appliance to blend in with cabinetry. The look is sleeker, with uninterrupted lines and a very polished profile.

Both collections also benefit from inspired techniques from the high-end auto industry including precision-machined aluminum extrusions, which makes seams virtually invisible. This also allows for ultra-flush installations and tighter fits between appliances and cabinets.

The craftsmanship and impeccable design of these appliances was demonstrated at KBIS through five zones featuring various appliances and aesthetics in each:

  • Bespoke Area gave a look at the future of appliance design with customized finishes.
  • Butler’s Pantry focused on multiuse of space with under-the-counter appliances.
  • Professional Kitchen showed our new Monogram Professional Collection appliances.
  • Minimal Kitchen debuted our new minimalist design for appliances.

Sneak Peek: Monogram Kitchen Island

Need another reason to believe that Monogram is Elevating Everything in the kitchen? We have it for you. Meet the exclusive Monogram Kitchen Island that was debuted at KBIS this January.

Monogram transformed a typical meeting room into a retro, speakeasy-styled, VIP lounge with the lit up Kitchen Island as the focal point of the dimly lit space. The brand went all out with Flapper girls, signature cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and of course, a cop to break up the “prohibited” speakeasy party at the end of each exclusive session.

So what exactly is the Monogram Kitchen Island? Brought to the KBIS show as a concept piece to get feedback on how we can perfect this luxury item before the launch, it’s a multi-functional 3.6’ x 7.87’ sheet of the finest black glass-ceramic that is much more than just your standard kitchen island. The elegant Monogram Kitchen Island includes fully integrated induction cooking technology. Therefore, the entire surface is seamless, but has the Monogram five burner induction cooktop with glide-touch controls built right into part of the sheet of glass. This means you can also utilize the WiFi capabilities of our exclusive First Build induction cooking probe for sous vide cooking to achieve perfect cooking results every time you cook. The Kitchen Island also includes a warming zone built into the island that’s perfect for entertaining your guests, whether it’s warming appetizers or keeping your chocolate at the perfect temperature for fondue.

Since all of this technology is seamless, when you’re not cooking, the entire surface acts as your island countertop, workspace, or favorite spot for poker night with friends. However, it doesn’t just have induction cooking technology built-in. The 6 mm thick glass ceramic also has wireless charging capabilities in spots throughout it. So not only can you charge your phone by laying it on the wireless port, but it can also effortlessly power your cordless countertop appliances that are becoming more and more common in everyday consumer’s homes. Talk about wowing your guests in so many ways with something that none of them have.

While this debut of our Monogram Kitchen Island was a concept, we plan on launching the luxury appliance by 2019 due to the overwhelmingly positive response we got at KBIS from designers, dealers, builders and more. The Monogram team traveled down to Orlando, Florida, for the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show last week to showcase our brand to an array of designers, retailers, remodelers, builders and architects. KBIS is truly breathtaking in how large of an event it is and how many people are in attendance. The convention showcases over 600 leading brands in the industry, engaging everyone in the latest trends in products, design and technology.

Monogram engaged our attendees with cuisine (not just pizza) made in the Monogram Pizza Oven right there in the booth with the help of Chefs Nick Liberato and Brian Malarkey.

Not only did we have acclaimed chefs, but we also had globally renowned fashion designer, Zac Posen, cooking right alongside them and signing copies of his new cookbook, Cooking with Zac.

Attendees were ecstatic to not only meet Zac and get a signed copy of his cookbook, but also to hear about his plans to design a one-of-a-kind panel for our Monogram Column refrigerators. Stay tuned for more exclusive plans between Monogram and Zac Posen in 2018, as well as partnerships with craftsmen that epitomize the quality of our brand.

In addition to displaying the custom pizza peel made for Monogram by William Campbell of Anvil Goods, we had another artisan’s talents in a prominent, full-wall display that sparked a lot of conversation. The cast-iron pan covered wall was brought to us by Borough Furnace who sustainably handmakes their products out of recycled scrap iron. Partnering with these artisans supports our passion for craftsmanship, devotion to details and our commitment to Elevate Everything.

 

Designer Profile: T. K. Wismer

If you were impressed by this year’s Monogram booth at KBIS this year, thanks go to T.K. Wismer who designed the space. She honed her expertise in design as a set and wardrobe stylist, breathing life into commercials, television, and photography. T.K’s work has been featured in publications including Southern Living, HGTV magazine, Better Homes and Gardens as well as several television and commercial campaigns.

SRFD: How did you become interested in design?

T.K.: From an early age, I always had a desire to see new designs and to imagine what a space could be. I was the kind of kid that had to go to the bathroom everywhere we went just to see what it looked like, and it was pretty common for me to organize and rearrange my friends’ rooms. Magazines were my ultimate entertainment and I would get lost for hours in the pages of my mom’s Southern Living, Vogue or Architectural Digest. We also moved a lot, every three months or so with the horse industry, and we were constantly setting up a new home and trying to work with what we had to create a comfortable space. All of that exposure to different regions, floorplans, and styles led to my insatiable appetite for creativity and change. I eventually made my way to set and wardrobe design for commercials and television and from there started on residential and commercial interiors.

SRFD: A trend you’re excited about?

T.K.: I am really excited to see darker, moodier tones emerging in kitchen and bath designs. Bright white spaces are classic and versatile for sure but darker tones are more soothing to me and I love the way they change throughout the day and look really dramatic in the evening. I also love the mixing and matching such as two-tone cabinetry and mixed metals for a few reasons, it creates a layered effect that is visually appealing and looks as though things were gathered over time or collected in a way. To me that is what makes a home interesting, a chance to see someone’s personally curated collection. The variations help show-case their unique identity. Mixing and matching is also a more sustainable approach to design. Trends come and go so fast, instead of throwing everything out and starting fresh, I like to integrate some new with the existing elements that might still be in great shape.

SRFD: A trend you are over?

T.K.: I like to think of trends in terms of food, they are cravings and as soon as you satisfy one, something else takes hold. There are picky eaters and picky designers and I consider myself neither, so I hate to even say this because this particular trend has helped so many find a style identity and that is really our goal as designers, to influence others and empower their choices but here goes: I am over the Farmhouse look. It has been such a big theme over the past two years and I can appreciate the charm but I personally do not see myself craving shiplap or corrugated metal, or rustic wood for a while at least. I am also growing weary with white on white spaces unless you have an art collection to rival a Manhattan gallery, they just leave me wanting more. Also, a little trend in accessorizing I have seen creeping around lately on social media and in store displays is books being shelved backward so that the pages show instead of spines. I cannot get on board with this; I can’t suspend my disbelief to the point to imagine a real person who would want to organize their books in this manner. Not to mention, books are some of my favorite décor items for the color and texture they add as you will see in several of the designs I did for the Monogram space at KBIS.

SRFD: Tell us about the Monogram booth at KBIS?

T.K.: For the Monogram booth, I wanted to create a kitchen that has vintage appeal married with modern technology. The look reminds me of a French bistro with the soft blue and green tones in the cabinetry topped with white marbled quartz counters. I wanted the colors to look like patina to communicate old world charm. I chose the brass lanterns and hardware that you would see on an antique icebox as a nod to where we began while the sleek Monogram appliances showcase how far we’ve come in kitchen and appliance design. Again, it goes back to my love of mixing old with new. The mother of pearl wallcovering adds a touch of elegance to the space and has a beautiful texture. The accessories are from Louisville Stoneware in my hometown and represent hand crafted details that are both attractive and highly functional. The look of the kitchen is classic with a simple, approachable elegance. I can imagine rolling out pastry dough or canning fresh vegetables in that space. I wanted it to be beautiful, comfortable, and hard-working.

Each year I look forward to starting the year fresh, full of new ideas and excited about the possibilities in the year to come. There is one industry show that embodies everything I enjoy about starting a new year – the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). The show continues to raise the bar each year. It was once again co-located with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders’ Show as part of Design and Construction Week. This year’s show was held in Orlando, Florida, and, as expected, it did not disappoint.

Of course, there are always plenty of new trends and technologies announced and launched as part of KBIS. This year two themes stood out as being incorporated in the exhibits, product offerings, and the general buzz with the trade community.

The first theme was home control. Home control includes the advancements in home automation or making homes “smarter.” Manufacturers continue to find ways to incorporate smart technology into more products, simplify controls, and find more cost-effective ways to integrate it into their products. The primary way automation is being integrated into the home is through products that operate by gestures and proximity sensors, and especially, products connected through WiFi to operating systems and other products in the home. Ultimately, the idea is that products can predict your needs before you have to dictate or manually act to utilize a product. Some of the best examples I saw at the show, include:

  • Pfister Auris – a voice-controlled faucet that offers filtered water and precise measurements of water at specific temperatures, which are perfect for cooking.

  • U by Moen – creates a customized shower experience via your smartphone. You have the ability to start the shower, customize the temperature, and even get alerts when your shower is ready.

The second theme that continued throughout the show was kitchens moving toward cleaner designs that focus on efficient living. The clean designs focus on getting rid of clutter and competing lines, and hiding appliances with cabinet panels or cabinet configurations. These kitchens still infused life and fun into the kitchen design with use of color and combining finishes in cabinetry and countertops.

  • Wellborn Cabinet showcased their Best of KBIS kitchen entry. They also launched their new line of Aspire cabinetry that is full-access frameless product.

  • Häfele’s Tab collection of cabinetry hardware allows the clean lines of the cabinetry to be the kitchen showcase. The hardware can be top mounted on drawers and bottom or side mounted on swinging cabinets. With a variety of colors and finishes, some designs make the hardware almost invisible.
  • Poggenpohl showcased a new line of chrome-plated lacquers in 14 colors, including green, gray, and blue that offers a clean look with a splash of fun.
  • Masterbrand Cabinetry showcased their Omega brand of cabinetry that integrates different finishes into the kitchen.

Hopefully you enjoyed the show as much as I did. Maybe you got a few ideas or a new perspective. I might have come away with a new project – the show just about pushed me over the top on a kitchen remodel. I hope my wife doesn’t mind!

What was trending at KBIS 2016

Every year in January, KBIS (the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show always features the latest trends in appliances, materials and technology, and this year was full of exciting new offerings. Everything from black faucets with hot pink handles, to barnwood cabinets, to crystal filled knobs could be found.

Building on the growing trend of creating the “Smart Home,” manufacturers from lock makers to appliance companies were promoting devices to control home automation and monitoring. Smartphone apps are used to connect consumers with various tasks within the home, saving them time, money, and sometimes, peace of mind.

Aesthetics-wise there seemed to be an emergence of “rustic modern,” using natural earthy materials in new and exciting ways. Textured wallcoverings and tiles in amorphous shapes and angles created a contemporary look that bowed to mid-century modern roots.

Cooktops featured heavy-duty metal grates in interesting patterns, and the introduction of brass burners created a great play between materials and finishes. Satin Nickel, Polished Nickel and Aged Bronze were a few of the highlighted materials. Also big this year were appliances that give users feedback – knobs that light up when in use and glow at various rates and intensities to show temperature ranges.

Overall, it showed that kitchen and bath technology is catching up with the latest in digital advances and designing them into beautiful environments.

 

KBIS 2015 Recap: KOHLER

An exciting event for companies and individuals involved in the design world is the annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), which was held in Las Vegas this year. In addition to introducing new Monogram products to designers in our own booth, we took the opportunity to check out other booths for trends, highlights, and new products. One product that we were very impressed with is the KOHLER Choreograph shower wall and accessory collection – which is a shower system that allows you to design a shower around your needs. This was a hot new item at KBIS 2015, and a brand new product offering by KOHLER.

Typically, tub surrounds and one-piece shower systems tend to be basic and lack features. Thanks to KOHLER’s Choreograph collection, however, your shower can be customized to create a beautiful and well-organized system that works ideally for you. Choreograph still has the efficiencies and convenience of a one-piece shower surround – such as low daily maintenance because of the lack of grout lines to clean – yet in a much more stylized manner. With the many color patterns and designs available for the wall panels and accessories, it’s easy to create a shower that fits your functional and aesthetic requirements. A unique element of the Choreograph collection is the ability to select wall accessories (known as “lockers”) to accommodate the products your family uses regularly. With various sizes available, even the jumbo bottles now have a place in the shower! There are quite a few options for shelving and storage, and you can even create a shower system such that each family member has their own locker.

In short, the KOHLER Choreograph shower wall and accessory collection is highly functional and high-style. The response in the booth was very positive and our friends at Kohler were kept busy providing overviews of the collection to groups of 25 designers, architects and builders at a time. Can’t wait to see what they show next year!
