Mindful by Design

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword. To Laura Muller, of Four Point Design Build Inc., it’s an opportunity to meld mindful creativity and wellness. And this year’s Pasadena Showcase House of Design did just that.

“We wanted to highlight high-level, luxury materials and products that were manufactured, sourced, and installed using responsible building and manufacturing practices,” says Laura.

Years ago, eco-friendly materials may have been a limitation, but today, the options are limitless. When it comes to environmentally friendly sourcing and design, Laura knows it’s all about all intuition, experience, and intentionality.

The end goal is always the same.

“By mindfully selecting and integrating unique, high-quality, eco-friendly natural materials, harmonious textures, and layers of soothing neutral colors, we’re designing kitchens that will create joy,” says Laura.

Sustainable kitchen integrates Monogram

“First, we assessed the space and made preliminary observations, that included (for one) the fact that we MUST remove one of the walls, and somehow create more linear real estate for our appliances,” says Laura.

With intentional design, appliances can complement both form and function, showing off their opulence while fitting seamlessly into the space.

“This well-edited, cozy kitchen integrates the latest in technology, says Laura. Monogram appliances chosen include: induction and all electric cooking appliances, hearth pizza oven, a 30” 5-in-one wall oven with Advantium technology, a 30” traditional wall oven, and a wine reserve. “The big splurge was the hearth oven,” says Laura.

With a nod to some of the original architectural elements of the 1930’s home, Laura incorporated a cool, mid-century modern flair, a few unencumbered vintage elements and divine simplicity.

“Our state-of-the-art, Monogram statement kitchen is designed for the modern minimalist ‘foodie’ and elegant entertainer with a busy family life,” says Laura. “Function, flow, sustainability, and wellness are key elements at the core and center of their lifestyle. This space speaks volumes about the future of kitchen design.”
