Chicago designer talks flow, function and kitchens
Design, flow, function. That’s not something at the top of every kid’s mind, but it’s been a part of Hannah Tindall’s life for as long as she can remember.
Growing up, the Chicago-based interior designer watched her mom decorate and renovate, and her father make furniture in their basement woodshop. In her own room, she followed her parents’ lead, arranging and rearranging things to get the perfect flow.
“Their creative sides rubbed off on me,” Hannah says. “I knew from a very young age I wanted to be an interior designer.”
And the design world is better for it.
An accomplished member of leading design firm Habitar Design, Tindall sits on the Monogram Designer Council, a group of 18 professionals from over 10 cities that helps Monogram cultivate a vision on everything from product design to the experience of ownership. We talked to Hannah about the Council, her approach to design and one of the most important rooms in any home – the kitchen.
Tell us about your job. What are you most passionate about in your role as a designer?
“I love taking a space and totally rethinking the layout to maximize its functionality and make it flow better.”
So much of a home’s flow depends on a kitchen. Why is the kitchen so important to home design?
“The kitchen is truly the heart of the home for so many people. They enjoy spending time there together, so it needs to be super functional but also reflect the client’s aesthetic and lifestyle.”
How do Monogram appliances help you to mix form and function in a kitchen?
“Monogram’s appliances are very user-friendly, and their style is classic and sleek. They can truly fit into any style of kitchen. I think approachable interior design is so important. I don’t want any client to feel intimidated or overwhelmed by a kitchen remodel, no matter how large or small their budget. As a part of the Designer Council, I hope to bring the voice of the average American family to the table.”
What’s your experience been so far on the Council?
“I’ve learned so much about what makes an appliance great in terms of quality and functionality, and how it can fit into anyone’s lifestyle – whether or not they’re an avid cook! I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know my fellow Designer Council members. Everyone has so many great ideas and we can all learn a lot from each other’s experiences in the industry.”
