As you may remember, we’re following along with Martin Spicuzza from Studio Spicuzza on the Steffen kitchen remodel project in Arlington Heights, a northwest Chicago suburb. To see the progress so far, read our earlier blogs: October, November, December 11, and December 17.
“As of my last writing on the Steffen residence, which was just before Christmas, all trades were frantically working to get the kitchen completed to a point so that the Steffen’s could cook and bake some holiday family meals and treats. Mission accomplished as all of the GE Monogram appliances did get installed, hooked up and are operational as well as the sinks, faucets, cabinet hardware and counter tops. They were very happy to have their kitchen back!
Additionally, lights over the island and dining area were installed, as well as a beautiful fireplace mantle from Neff that is finished in a liquid metal.
Work halted right before Christmas and resumed on January 5th.
On site January 6, I worked with the installer laying out tiles for the backsplash behind the range, the wine bar and sunroom, all from Ann Sacks.
There are still other items besides the backsplashes to be completed, such as the panels on the refrigerator, marble around the firebox, grouting and sealing of the stone floor, final wall, door and trim finishes, furniture and accessorizing.
Hopefully by month’s end this will all be done so I can get professional photos taken and will be able to show the kitchen/great room in its entirety and full beauty.
Then onto phase three, the main foyer and staircase with new marble flooring, which includes a beautiful tile medallion from Ann Sacks, gorgeous Stark carpeting and custom decorative ironwork railings.”
